Story
We have a team of 16 runners who have come together to support Pseudomyxoma Survivor. Several of the runners have survived this horrendous form of cancer, whilst others are running to help raise funds.
The cancer is often known as Cancer of the Appendix and most people think you can 'just remove the appendix' but unfortunately not! The cancer spreads from the appendix to any organ within the abdominal cavity and patients wake up from surgery not knowing which organs might have been removed or saved.
The surgery usually takes over 8 hours and there are only two hospitals in the UK who can carry out this surgery Basingstoke and the Christie in Manchester.
As a charity we aim to Support patients and their families; Raise awareness within the medical community and to support Research programmes.
Every donation helps as we are currently funding:
A flat in Manchester for the families of patients to use whilst their loved one is in hospital
Grants for patients that need to travel long distances to receive treatment
Gifts for patients to cheer up their stay in hospital
Leaflets that are distributed to GP surgeries
Oncology conferences to raise awareness within the medical community
Ongoing day to day costs of running a charity such as insurance, accountancy and legal fees.
