Story

Loved ones are honoring the life of Paul Jenkins, raising funds to support Sussex Rehabilitation Centre - a service run by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

We are fund raising in support of Paul Jenkins, a colleague and friend who was the manager at the London Tile Southwick depot for over 30 years. A friend to colleagues, customers and suppliers he passed away unexpectedly last year. Paul had shown his determination and courage after having lost a leg in 2019 after contacting sepsis. He quickly learnt to walk again and embraced the challenges his condition brought. His new lease for life saw him walking more and his positivity was an inspiration to others.

Supporters will be undertaking a 17 mile sponsored walk along Sussexs beautiful Seven Sisters coastal path in the South Downs National Park on Saturday 18 September 2021, all to raise funds in memory of Paul to support Sussex Rehabilitation Centre, where Paul received dedicated care.

The out-patient service, based at the Sussex Rehabilitation Centre at Brighton General Hospital, helps patients with upper and lower limb loss to achieve and sustain maximum possible mobility, dexterity and independence. The centre provides a prosthetic limb service to amputees and people with congenital limb loss, supporting patients with pain management, wound healing and health screening to prevent further limb loss and carrying out the production, maintenance and repair of artificial limbs.

Paul found the support he received from the Sussex Rehab Centre was exemplary and he was keen to return this support. Unfortunately his untimely passing prevented this and his friends and colleagues now wish to honour him by raising money for the centre.

All funds raised from this campaign will form a pot of money for the centre, which can be used to fund activities and equipment for patients to enable them to participate in activities of their choice which they might not otherwise be able to access. For example, this could help fund an adapted bike for a patient to regain some independence or an adapted and inclusive surfing lesson for a patient to try a new sport.

You're invited to join in by sponsoring the Seven Sisters walk by making a donation to our campaign or take part yourself by lacing up your walking shoes and setting up your own fundraising page through this campaign.

If you would like to join the walk on Saturday 18 September 2021, please get in contact with Julian at julian@htw.co.uk for further details.
