Story

St Sampsons Church is in rural Cornwall. It is a beautiful place and off the beaten track. There is a lot of history connected with it including Bishop Trelawnys first parish and the high possibility of St Sampson founding a monastry here. Without help, our small but active congregation will not be able to maintain the fabric of the building.

The wider community value St Sampsons and have suggested over one hundred uses for it, but we need to make the building weather proof and fix the roof, the ceiling, the windows, the tower, the floor and most importantly install a toilet and kitchen so that everyone can fully use this amazing place.

We are busy fundraising with our CRUX team (cherished, restored, unlocked church) and applying for grant funding, most of which needs some match funding.

Any donations or fundraising activities will be warmly welcomed.l

About the charity

St Sampson's Church, South Hill, Cornwall, St Sampson's Unlocked project,

St Sampson's Church is an amazing building in the small rural parish of South Hill. It holds a special place in the lives of many people and is in need of repairs and improvements The St Sampson's Unlocked project will preserve the heritage of the building and that of South Hill community, by making the building warm , dry , draught free and adding toilet and kitchen facilities. We want the community to use this building for many activities and events. It is a medieval grade 1 listed and has a wealth of fascinating history. There has been a Christian presence here for over a 1000 years. There is a memorial stone dated 500 AD. It is thought probable that St Sampson built a monastery here and Bishop Trelawny was rector here. Please help to keep this church thriving into the future.
