1. Introduction
We created this page in the hope that you can help raise funds to replace an ageing minibus that serves Kathy’s Kindergarten and the local community in Mayuge, South Eastern Uganda.
This bus has been a lifeline for thousands for over seven years, enabling access to education, healthcare, and work. However, it has now become unreliable, frequently breaking down, and urgently needs to be replaced.
With your support, we aim to raise £15,059 to purchase a Transit Mk7 T410 L4/H2 115 6MT and cover shipping and associated costs to Uganda. David Fishwick of Bank of Dave fame has graciously offered to supply the minibus at a discount and make a personal donation toward the cost, but additional funding is critical to complete this initiative.
2. Background and Need
About Kathy’s Centre and Act4Africa (A4A):
Kathy’s Centre was established in 2017 by Act4Africa.org, a UK-based international NGO with 24+ years of experience delivering health and gender equality education across East and Southern Africa. The Centre, located on a 3-acre plot near Mayuge Town, houses:
A kindergarten offering high-quality early years education to up to 40 disadvantaged children.
A a ommunity education centre that provides life skills, financial literacy, and enterprise skills training for young mothers.
3. Why a New Minibus is Critical:
The current minibus has served its purpose but is now beyond repair. Without reliable transportation:
Children and young mothers from poor villages, located over a mile from Kathy’s Centre, struggle to attend school safely. Many walk barefoot on dirt tracks or travel on motorbike taxis, often in unsafe conditions.
Inconsistent school and training sessions attendance threatens the quality of education for these children and young mothers, whose families cannot afford alternative transportation.
4. Objectives
Purchase a new minibus: A Transit Mk7 T410 L4/H2 115 6MT suitable for local conditions.
Ensure safe and reliable transportation: reduce risks for children travelling to school and young women attending vital vocational training sessions.
Promote community development: enable the continued use of the minibus by the wider community for healthcare visits, work, and other essential activities.
Thank you for considering this urgent and impactful cause.
Thanks a million
