St Luke’s Hospice (established 1987) cares for people approaching the end of their life in Harrow and Brent. We aim to give the people we care for the best possible quality of life every day. Last year we supported over 2000 patients and their families. Of the % of religions recorded, 28% of our patients are Hindu. Care is given with compassion and dignity and involves not just looking after the patient, but also includes supporting the people closest to them.
St Luke’s activities:
Two thirds of St Luke’s care is provided in the comfort of peoples’ homes: Our Specialist community team of nurses helps people to manage more complex needs and our Hospice at Home team supports people to remain in their own homes by providing practical care and support.
Pall 24/7 Helpline provides advice, a rapid response in times of crisis and effectively co-ordinates care, from arranging prescriptions, to getting vital equipment delivered – anything people need to avoid going to hospital and to stay comfortably at home.
St Luke’s 12 bedded In Patient Unit at Kenton Grange cares for people in their final days, providing intensive care to help get symptoms under control or give respite care. Many of the people who are cared for in our IPU go home again.
St Luke’s Hospice offers a holistic and person-centred approach to care, focusing not only on physical comfort but also on emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. We provide a wide range of expert care and support intended to keep people feeling well, independent and mobile for as long as possible.
Alongside outpatient clinics, we provide a range of holistic care through our Patient and Family Support Service which is intended to support people’s wellbeing including emotional support to patients, their families and unpaid carers, social work, spiritual care, complementary therapy and physiotherapy services. We also provide bereavement support provided by staff and trained, supervised volunteers.
The NHS funds only 27% of the overall costs of St Luke’s services which means the care of 7 out of 10 of our patients is totally funded by donations and events like this. Every contribution counts so please donate whatever you can and help make a meaningful impact to patient comfort and quality of life.
Currently the charitable hospice sector is facing significant financial challenges where funding has not kept pace with rising costs, increased demand, and the changing needs of our population.
Thank you for your support.
