Story
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Jashumatiben (lovingly known as Daiben) passed away peacefully on the 9th August 2025, at the remarkable age of 92.
Universally ‘Ba’(grandmother) to many that knew her, we will miss her traditional ways, her insightful stories of life in India and Kenya as well as the struggles the family faced starting life when they moved to London. She made us laugh; she made us cry and she has left us with a lifetime of memories and stories to pass onto the next generation.
We will miss her delicious food, her determinedness and her wisdom, as well as her unique ability to make us all do things her way. 😊
As a family, we are deeply grateful for the thoughtful, compassionate, and supportive care given by St Luke’s Hospice, especially during the final weeks we shared with her. Without their help, we would not have been able to bring her home and make her last days as comfortable as possible. The hospice team was patient, accommodating, and reassuring; responding to her needs as a priority and ensuring we had everything required to ease her pain. They even arranged night carers at short notice, which made an enormous difference to us all.
While our Ba enjoyed good health for most of her life, she was diagnosed with dementia in 2014. In recent years, the illness took a significant toll. Until you have seen someone live with dementia, it is hard to truly understand how devastating and debilitating it can be. Ba had always been fiercely independent, so watching her lose the ability to carry out even simple tasks was heartbreaking.
For this reason, we have chosen to share the donations we raise between St Luke’s Hospice and Dementia UK, two organisations whose work has directly touched our family.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in helping us to honour her memory by donating to the two charities.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
