Story
Piers Barrett has been supporting the village since he was knee high to his father. He was about this high when the two of them planted the row of conifers that shield the storage garages from view on the recreation ground. Meant to be maintained as a six-foot hedge, these have now grown to over 100 feet.
Piers, following in his father's footsteps, has been quietly mowing grass, strimming edges, dredging ditches and painting lines at the recreation ground for the last ten years. He has done so for nine of these years with ancient equipment, held together with Gaffer tape and cajoled into life with WD40.
Last spring, Piers became the guardian of a new John Deere rotary mower, and a nearly-new Jacobsen gang mower. This winter, we wish to build a new storage facility for these, and the recreation ground's other mowers and equipment.
We have the funds to complete this project ... just! Your donation, however small, will ensure we also have the funds to maintain a prudent reserve over the next nine months just in case!
and ...
you will be putting a Christmas present under the tree for Piers - quietly saying, "thank you for maintaining our beautifully recreation ground."
