Action on Poverty builds livelihoods for vulnerable people. We deliver programmes with partners in East and West Africa which provide practical support to those living in extreme poverty, break down social barriers for marginalised groups and enable people to transform their communities.

Story

This September, we are taking on the UK Three Peaks Challenge to raise £8,000 for Action on Poverty's work in Sierra Leone.

On 19 and 20 September, our team will attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa in one continuous challenge. That means around 38 km on foot, more than 3,000 metres of climbing, hundreds of miles on the road between the mountains and very little sleep.

And we are not doing it alone.

In the weeks leading up to the challenge, friends, families, colleagues and supporters will be joining us through Road to Three Peaks, taking on collective walking, running, hiking and outdoor challenges from wherever they are.

So why are we doing it?

Because many of the things we rely on every day are easy to take for granted until they stop working. Having clean water directly available, a healthy environment and at least two meals a day are things most of us don't think about much.

For many of the communities we work with in Sierra Leone, it can be much less certain. A broken water pump can mean hours spent finding water elsewhere. The loss of mangroves can affect fishing, farming, flooding and the incomes families depend on.

The good thing is that there are practical solutions, and local communities are already leading them.

Through POWER, women are training as pump technicians and building businesses while helping keep water flowing in their communities. Through Coastal Roots, people are restoring mangroves and finding new, more resilient ways to earn a living.

That's what we're fundraising for. Supporting people with the skills, opportunities and resources to make these solutions work and last.

Our target is £8,000, and every donation genuinely counts.

£5, £10, £20 or £100 all take us another step towards that goal. And if you cannot donate, sharing this page with someone else can make a difference too.

There will be tired legs, bad weather, difficult moments and probably a few questions about why we thought climbing three mountains in 24 hours was a good idea, or whether 100Miles over a week was maybe too ambitious.

But knowing there is a whole group of people behind us will make those moments a little easier.

Please support the challenge, help us reach our goal, and be part of what we are trying to achieve.

Thank you for getting behind us.
