Story
Nationally, nearly 70% of fourth graders from under resourced communities are struggling to read. Right here in our city, the reality is just as stark: literacy scores in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn schools rank among the lowest in the state.
Research* proves linking learning and the arts, works! ArtsConnection’s Bridges to Literacy model harnesses the power of puppetry arts and theater to bring language to life while deepening comprehension and increasing vocabulary.
My students became more focused and less self-conscious, which allowed them to read, write and speak better. The theater was like a country to which we all belonged. -Elementary school English as a New Language (ENL) teacher, Brooklyn
Our goal of $6,000 supports Bridges to Literacy professional learning for 50 educators across Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn schools.
The critical effort to equip more educators with our powerful arts-based literacy tools is only possible with the support of caring individuals like you.
