Two large earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 struck southeast Turkey on Monday, February 6th. The first earthquake hit at 4.17am and was followed by several aftershocks as large as 6.5 magnitude only minutes later.

The affected provinces include Kayseri, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, and Hatay. Tremors were felt as far as Cyprus, Egypt and Lebanon.

According to latest reports, at least 1,600 people have been confirmed dead, with the number rising by the hour. Gaziantep has the highest death toll among Turkish cities. Over 7,000 people have been reported injured and many more are trapped in the rubble following the collapse of homes and city infrastructure.

Ongoing rescue operations are underway in a desperate bid to save lives. This is the worst earthquake to hit the region in 19 years. The scale of the tragedy continues to evolve and it is a race against time to save lives.

As Muslims, it is our obligation to help those in need, especially during times of crisis. In light of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey, As-Subah has Partnered up with local Madrasahs in Turkey to Deliver Vital Aid.

It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters affected by this tragedy. The scale of the damage is immense, with thousands of homes and city infrastructure collapsing, leaving countless people dead, injured and trapped in the rubble.

Not only is it a physical act of compassion, but donating to help those in need also holds immense reward with Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Charity does not decrease wealth," and "The best form of charity is to help a person in need." In this time of great need, every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disaster.
