Story
SCAD is a serious, under-diagnosed heart condition that can cause heart attacks in otherwise healthy people, often with no warning and no known cause.
Beat SCAD is a patient-led charity working to raise awareness, support those affected, and fund vital research to better understand and treat SCAD.
Thanks to incredible supporters, Beat SCAD has already funded groundbreaking research (see more: SCAD Research - Get involved with UK Study). We have provided funding for Clinical Research Fellows and other research activities, helping to uncover the causes of SCAD and improve patient outcomes.
Our goal
We are now raising £25,000 to help extend the current Clinical Research Fellow post into 2027, ensuring this vital research continues.
Join the Walk – 20 June 2026
On Saturday 20 June, Beat SCAD will bring together around 100 supporters for a special fundraising walk in Leicester, followed by the UK’s leading SCAD specialist and researcher, Dr David Adlam providing a research update and hosting a Q&A.
We’re asking every participant to consider taking part as a sponsored walker and aim to raise some funds:
If each walker is able to raise £100 – £250 or more, we will hit or even exceed our £25,000 goal.
Can’t attend? Walk with us wherever you are
You can still be part of this event. Even if you can’t come to Leicester.
Join us by doing a virtual walk on the same day, wherever you are in the UK or beyond.
Set your own distance, share your story, and fundraise in your community.
After the walk we will share a recording of the research update for you to watch on our YouTube channel.
Why it matters
SCAD cannot currently be predicted or prevented, but research is changing that.
Every pound raised helps:
• Fund life-saving research
• Improve diagnosis and treatment
• Support patients and families
Together, we are finding answers – and saving lives.
