Help Bluebell in her fight for a normal life. After discovering she was incontinent at just 1 year old, and in need of life changing bladder surgery, can you help us give Bluebell a brighter future?
Meet Bluebell. The sassy 1 year old Frenchie whose world looks very different to other dogs.
Upon coming to NAWT Cornwall, at first everything seemed fine. Bluebell seemed nervous, but very friendly and loving. The first day in rescue must be daunting for any dog, but within hours Bluebell knew that she was in a safe and loving place.
During her first night here we noticed urine in her kennel in. As the next day went on we realized something wasn't quite right. Bluebell wasn't urinating in a normal way.... she was incontinent. At just 1 year old this was a big worry and something potentially life changing.
Bluebell simply can’t carry on like this. Left as she is, there is a high chance of complications later on in life. The team have been keeping her legs clean to avoid urine burns and sores, cleaning her kennel and bedding through the day, and generally keeping Bluebell as clean and dry as we can. Although she isnt in severe pain, she is mentally very aware of whats going on, knowing that urine is coming out and continuously looking around looking guilty and apologetic. This really is totally out of her control.
After an X -Ray at Animal Vets in Hayle they confirmed that things did'nt look right. It was possible that Bluebell's Ureters weren't connected to her bladder, but in order to see exactly where they were and what sort of surgery she would need, we needed more detail. And the only way to do this was a CT scan.
For this we headed to Beacon Vetcare. Bluebell won everybody over straight away at the vets with her bubbly and funny personality, even running into the treatment room to see them!
The scan confirmed our worst fears.... Bluebell has Ectopic Ureters. This means that her Ureters, which are the tubes that should come out of the kidneys and into the bladder, carrying the urine, actually come out and connect far too low, bypassing her bladder completely. This is why urine just drips out continuously for Bluebell. The corrective surgery would remove them from where they are now, and reattach to her bladder.
So now its surgery time. And of course this comes at a cost. All together Bluebell's life changing treatment is costing £3500, and we really need your help with this. As a charity we know that you know we don't have that sort of money to hand. So we have launched this campaign to ask for your help, so we can give Bluebell the normal life she deserves.
This operation will change her future. Without this, our chances of finding Bluebell a forever home are very bleak. Can you help us get a normal #bladder4bluebell?
