On Sunday 17 May 2026, a fantastic group of Breaking Barriers supporters and staff will be taking on the Hackney Half Marathon to help refugees find meaningful employment.

Our team will attempt to run a total of almost 80 miles to raise funds and awareness and help refugees overcome the hurdles they face to finding work in the UK.

Refugees bring a wealth of talent, experience and new perspectives that can strengthen their new communities and employers. But they often face an up-hill struggle to secure a job - because of language barriers or non-recognition of their qualifications, a lack of knowledge of the UK job market or professional network, and even discrimination.

Our Hackney Half runners are helping Breaking Barriers to provide the employment guidance, language and re-accreditation support, and workplace opportunities that will help refugees to beat these challenges.
