Raise money for the homeless by sleeping outside for the evening!
Bromley Homeless has been holding an annual Sleep Out event for over ten years now. Each Winter, we come together and raise money for those who are facing homelessness during the harshest months of the year.
We encourage people to bed down in the church grounds after a meal and spend a night outside in November temperatures - just like our rough sleeping clients will be doing throughout the winter. Every single penny raised will go towards helping those in need.
Doing the sleep out made me realise how hard it actually would be to sleep on the streets. I woke up at 3am and was so stiff and was so aware of all of the sounds of the night all around me! But I'm glad I did it. It made me realise how lucky I am to have a safe place to sleep at night and it's really hit home that not everyone has that.
It’s a demanding challenge, I’ve done a marathon for charity and the Sleep Out is possibly harder (though the training is a lot quicker ☺). So, to anyone reading, I thoroughly recommend you get involved.

Daniel's story
When Daniel* came to Bromley Homeless, he had spent over twenty years living in a shed on his allotment and had been sleeping in a camping chair. Unseen, undocumented, and battling serious health issues.
At 84 years old, Daniel had never had a National Insurance number and had fallen through every crack in the system for more than six decades.
When he came to us, he was extremely unwell with his legs swollen from fluid retention as the result of years without proper rest. He was living with undiagnosed heart issues and had been surviving in conditions no one should ever have to endure.
Daniel was triaged and assessed to stay at the Bromley Homeless Winter Shelter. John stayed with us from December 2024 until March 2025 before moving into his new flat, found for him by the Bromley Homeless team.
Our team worked intensively with John to piece together his history, liaise with government services, and get him the support he deserved.
We were able to help Daniel:
🫶 Secure safe and stable housing
🫶 Obtain his first-ever National Insurance number
🫶 Access his Over-80s State Pension
Most importantly, John is now receiving the medical attention he needs and can live with dignity, safety, and peace of mind that he is no longer alone.
This is why we do what we do. No one should be forgotten.
