The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD)

CAFOD's Bangladesh Country Programme

Densely populated, Bangladesh is vulnerable to the floods, droughts and cyclones that affect over 70% of the population every year leading to the highest rate of malnourished children in South Asia. CAFOD works with local groups to change this.

Story

Toma lives in Bangladesh. She loves to grow things in her garden. But because of climate change, storms and cyclones are more extreme, destroying the plants in her garden. People in Tomas area are working hard to find new ways to protect their crops from the weather but without specialist training, they are struggling to survive.

CAFOD is working through a local Church organisation and other local experts to teach people farming skills to help their crops to thrive in a changing climate, and teaching trades like mechanics and tailoring so people arent solely reliant on farming in the unpredictable weather. Sadly, Toma's story is one shared by the 7 in 10 of all Bangladeshi people who suffer through such extreme weather patterns each year.

Your support is all what enables us to keep on doing this vital work.
