St Laurences Big Walk to Bangladesh
Densely populated, Bangladesh is vulnerable to the floods, droughts and cyclones that affect over 70% of the population every year leading to the highest rate of malnourished children in South Asia. CAFOD works with local groups to change this.

Story

This year our fundraising walk for Lent is the most ambitious yet - we will walk 7500 miles to Bangladesh. Each of us will walk with our Lord every day, enter their daily total into the website stepcounter which will lead us across the globe.

We will walk and fundraise in support of the fifty million people living in the Bangladesh delta. Life is precarious and land is scarce. Climate change is increasing the frequency of cyclones, and major storms now occur almost every year. The storms destroy villages, roads and crops, which are peoples’ main livelihood. There is nowhere else to go, and people have to rebuild their homes and replant their fields, knowing the violent and destructive storms will return. And sea levels are rising every year due to climate change, the delta is low lying and vulnerable.

CAFOD is working through a local Church organisation and other local experts to teach people farming skills to help their crops to thrive in a changing climate, and teaching trades like mechanics and tailoring so people arent solely reliant on farming in the unpredictable weather.

Your support is all what enables us to keep on doing this vital work.

Please help us raise £1 per mile - 7500 miles = £7500. Thank you.
