Story
The Chairman's Great Tommy Sleep Out is a powerful fundraising challenge to support veterans across the UK who are experiencing homelessness right now.
For one night only, our participants will give up their beds to sleep under makeshift shelters, exposed to the elements, at The Trenches in Detling Showground. This event is designed to replicate, in a small way, both the conditions many homeless veterans face today and the harsh reality of life in the WW1 trenches. It is a humbling, eye-opening experience that reminds us why this cause is so urgent.
Decades of research – alongside our own experience working directly with veterans – show that the next 50 years will be critical for those who served in more recent conflicts such as Afghanistan and Bosnia. Many veterans find themselves locked out of social housing, left struggling to secure stable employment without a fixed address. This too often leads to financial hardship and, tragically, a cycle of homelessness that is incredibly hard to escape.
By taking part in The Chairman’s Great Tommy Sleep Out, we can take real action. Together, we can help break this cycle and create a better future for the brave men and women who have served our nation – and for their families too.
