Lakelands Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support services for people living with cancer and heart failure. Our aim is to enhance the quality of life for those in need and their loved ones at a time of crisis and beyond in an environment that provides tranquillity, support and care.

Story

Lakelands Hospice is urging individuals to donate, or be Creative, Wacky and Zany and rise to our #Challenge733 in June to help us raise £20,000. Your support will help us provide more nights of quality palliative nursing care with our Hospice at Home service.

Our Hospice at Home nurses provide high quality nursing care for the terminally ill who live in the Corby area, and wish to be at home rather than in hospital in the last weeks/days of their lives. Our team of dedicated nurses support patients so they can die peacefully, with dignity, in their own home surrounded by their loved ones. This service is provided free of charge to all patients and their families.

We first first launched #Challenge300 in August 2015 after supporting our 300th Hospice at Home patient, in June 2021 we now launch #challenge733. Tracy Glen our Nursing Manager stated Our #challenge733 is in remembrance of all 733 patients and their families, and to highlight the amazing work of our dedicated team of hospice at home nurses. Since #challenge581 in 2019 our hospice at home nurses have supported a further 152 patients, a true testament to why this service is vital, every penny donated will be truly appreciated.

The covid-19 pandemic has hit Lakelands Hospices fundraising efforts really hard; we took an unprecedented step last year and cancelled all of our much-loved fundraising events throughout 2020. This decision was totally essential to ensure the safety of the public, our valued volunteers and members of staff, but it has hit our income hard. We need to raise in excess of £545,000 each year to provide our services. We are extremely grateful for all the wonderful support we have received from the community and businesses in the Corby borough, but now more than ever we need everyone to help and support Lakelands, to ensure we keep our doors open and continue to provide our vital care services.

We have created some fun events for people to participate in including;

Bucket Loads of Love - A corporate challenge for local businesses. Those that wish to participate will be given an empty Lakelands fundraising bucket and then encouraged to fundraise and fill their bucket throughout June. The Company which raises the most will receive a winners trophy and a bottle of champagne.

Lakelands Big Brew - Dig out your teapot and host a Lakelands Big Brew event; a great way to meet up with friends and raise much needed funds for Lakelands. A fundraising pack is available from the hospice containing a poster, invitations and a guess the teapot game.

Rainbows, Nurses and Superheroes day - A great opportunity for schools, businesses and individuals to dress up in their favourite rainbow coloured clothes, superhero or nurses outfit. Everyone that participates is being asked to donate £1 to Lakelands.

We are hoping as many people as possible will get involved to help us smash our £20,000 target. if you would like to get involved with one of our events, host your own fundraiser or challenge yourself with a sponsored walk, cycle etc call Marina Rae on: 01536 747755 or email: marinarae@lakelandshospice.org.uk

All funds raised will help our Hospice at Home nurses provide more nights of high quality palliative care.
