Story
What's so special about Chippy Theatre?
Chippy Theatre, as we are known to many, is a registered charity and has been a home for arts and creativity in Chipping Norton for over 50 years.
A rare example of an independent rural theatre, we offer a busy and varied programme of live theatre, music, comedy and of course panto; we also welcome over 300 young people, adults and people with disabilities every week in our Take Part courses in youth theatre, drama, dance and writing.
Our brilliant runners in the Oxford Half this year are pushing themselves to run further and raise vital funds to help us ensure that The Theatre is here to be enjoyed by, and support, everyone in our rural community.
The Theatre's Community Programme
The Theatre's Community Programme uses the arts to support, help and inspire those who are marginalised or disadvantaged in our local rural area.
We believe Theatre is for everyone, and we know the enormous benefits that the arts can bring.
In our rural community there are areas of real disadvantage, often hidden from view. A recent WODC Youth Needs Assessment found 42% of young people reported poor mental health last year, 1 in 5 children in Oxfordshire have SEN, well above the national average (OCC) & 20% of children in West Oxfordshire live in poverty (WODC). We go into schools, care-homes and even playgrounds to build long term relationships with young people and their families and help them address the challenges they face.
