Story
Last year's Covid-19 pandemic saw a nationwide lockdown imposed in India creating chaos. The poor and marginalised, part of the informal economy and reliant on day labour, find themselves with no work, no money, and no food. The healthcare infrastructure creaked at the seams with government hospitals and testing centres overwhelmed, turning patients away.
Now India is hit by a second wave, bigger and growing much faster than last year's. Over 300,000 new infections a day are being reported - the highest in the world. Now the virus is rife in the villages as well as the cities and slums. There are shortages of oxygen and medication in the hospitals. People are being turned away. People are dying.
Working through our network 5 clinics, 20 eClinics. 150 community health workers, 96 schools strategically placed to serve poor and marginalised communnities, our Indian colleagues are striving to protect the most vulnerable.
Now, with the growing crisis we want to provide:
Medical supplies and treatment - both for Covid and for other conditions where people are unable to get (attention) due to the government health system being overwhelmed.
Food, nutrition and other essential supplies for those facing starvation because they have no work and no income due to lockdowns.
Your giving will help save lives and give hope!
