The situation in India is truly chaotic and traumatic at the moment. Our healthcare teams are in the middle of it, working flat out to help those needing medical attention. They are helping those facing food shortage because the daily wage earner is sick or has passed away. The word from our teams on the ground is that however bad the media reports and statistics look, the actual situation is far worse. Many of the poor are dying without being tested so their deaths are not being recorded. Sadly some of our Good Shepherd staff are suffering intense Covid symptoms. An increasing number have lost their lives. Our teams are helping in three main areas:

• Provision of immediate health care needs including Covid testing, oxygen, and drugs for those infected. They also help to negotiate hospital access for those with serious symptoms or complications. 
• Provision of food and other aid. This is an immense need especially for the families of daily wage earners who have become sick or have passed away.
  
• Provision of support and protection for our own healthcare staff as they work in infected areas
