Story

Diamonds Scotland exist to support and equip young women to discover their true identity in Christ and to empower young women to live lives that are transformed by following Jesus

We live in a world where young women are given many mixed messages about who they should be, from how they look, to their behavior and where they should find their purpose. It is no wonder then that many struggle to value themselves, suffering from low self-esteem which can often lead to further mental health problems such as eating disorders, self-harm and bullying behavior.

Over 70% of girls age 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, when they feel bad about their looks. "Brands in Action: Dove." Unilever USA.

75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities like cutting, bullying, smoking, drinking, or disordered eating. This compares to 25% of girls with high self-esteem. PR Newswire Association LLC.

7 in 10 girls believe that they are not good enough or dont measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members. Shapiro, Hannah. "Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty boosts girls' self-esteem for Back to School."

These stats are somewhat shocking but sadly unsurprising when we consider the society that many young women live in. Here at Diamonds Scotland however, we believe there is another story. One where despite the contradicting messages of our society young women can learn to value themselves as God does and where they can learn they are worthy, important and created for a purpose not defined by the worlds standards but by God.

We want to see the next generation of young women in this nation not just believe in themselves but in the women around them, creating a culture of empowerment and opportunity and where they are not limited or undermined by their sex, status or circumstances.

Therefore, Diamonds Scotland has developed over many years resources that equip young women to encounter God and the Christian faith in an accessible and relevant way, supporting them to grow in their faith and live lives that are transformed by following Jesus where they are empowered to lead with influence in all areas of society.

We have developed an online resource platform that aims to inspire, encourage and support young women in their self-esteem, purpose and value. We do this through our podcast, the Diamonds Girlcast , our YouTube channel, the Diamonds Sessions as well as developing resources that can be downloaded and run in youth groups by youth workers and mentors called the Identity Sessions see our website for detail here. We also run conferences for young women focusing on topics of self-esteem, value, purpose and faith.

We believe that as a young women learns to value herself as God does she not only lives a life that is transformed but she carrys this influence into the places she is called to go. This effects how she approaches her education, ambitions, dreams and future.

We are believing for a generation of young women across our nation who will stand for Gods standards in how they view themselves and others and where the communities they live in and are part of are significantly changed for the better, becoming places of empowerment and transformation as young women learn to lead with influence and bring Gods kingdom to earth.

Can you help us continue our work? To create, build and run these resources takes significant finances. At present we are fundraising to support the growth of our work particularly our podcast and our social media network. We are sourcing funding to employ a Media Director and Youth Director to aid the growth of the charity.

Do you feel able to donate to our cause or get involved in the Ben Nevis Challenge yourself by running your own fundraiser linked to this page and help us reach our target?

Together we can make a positive change to the lives of many young women waiting to know they are important, valued and created for an amazing purpose. Get involved today.
