We are so thankful to have a community that's committed to our vision of having all children grow up in safe, stable, nurturing families and communities. Even more, we are extremely proud of the children in our care who go on and have improved life situations.
COVID-19 has made this year especially challenging. Throughout the pandemic, even when schools and most social activities were shut down, our work continued. In fact, there was not slow down of caring for children in our community. And now that we are at the very beginnings of getting back to normal, were seeing increased needs for the highest levels of counseling, therapy, and other wrap around services to keep our children safe.
For instance, Mary* was in foster care for several years and placed in 'Grammie's House,' our group home, because she needed specialized mental health services that her family couldn't provide. She stayed in our group home while we searched for an appropriate placement. Before coming to us, she bounced from home to home. We helped her family find resources like a suitability assessment. Such indicated what we knew all along, she needed inpatient care.
While waiting on a bed to open at an inpatient facility, Mary stayed with us at the group home. There, we wrapped counseling and therapeutic services around her, and she began to thrive. She improved so much that her Guardian Ad Litem petitioned the court for her to stay at the group home, even after inpatient care was found. With the continual wrap-around of therapy services, Mary was eventually able to reunify with her biological mother. Now that Mary is approaching adulthood, we are working with the family to make sure that specialized therapeutic services can continue to meet her needs.

Mary is one of the thousands of children we help every day. When you donate to Safe Children Coalition you'll help care for children of all ages like 2 - 5-year-old preschoolers in our HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program, middle school to high school-aged students in our Achievers program, runaway teens and homeless teens at our Youth Shelter and our Schoolhouse Link program, and more. You'll support our work to keep families together through our Youth Prevention Services, and you'll help us reunify parents with their children when its safe and healthy for the entire family.
