Because Encephalitis Shouldn't Steal A Childhood

Encephalitis is a sudden inflammation of the brain that can change - and in some cases take - a child or young person’s life in a matter of hours. Early recognition and faster support can save lives, and improve long-term outcomes.

For those who survive, encephalitis can leave lasting cognitive, emotional, and behavioural challenges that affect education, relationships, and everyday life.

This appeal supports children and young people affected by encephalitis, helping both to save lives through awareness and to rebuild lives after diagnosis.

We are raising £30,000 to fund:

- Opportunities for children and families to connect with others who share similar experiences, including events such as our Family Resilience Event, helping to reduce isolation and build lasting support networks.

- Child-focused information and recovery resources to help children, families, schools, and healthcare professionals understand life after encephalitis. This includes our Returning to School and GP guides, as well as our My Encephalitis Story presentation, which children and young people can personalise and use to share their experiences with friends, family, and teachers.

-Our dedicated helpline, providing expert information, reassurance, and support for families navigating the impact of encephalitis.
