Story
Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway and proud to be part of the Wirksworth Community.
With visitors from far and wide on our operating days, including special events, and our regular Model Railway Exhibition set in three venues in the heart of our town, we draw thousands of people to Wirksworth and encourage them to visit businesses in the area.
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association (EVRA) is the charitable arm of Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway and registered as a Charity in 2004.
Five years ago, the volunteer-led charity completed the first phase of a major development of public areas with a new Museum containing an extensive collection of railwayana and a Shop with one of the largest selections of second-hand railway and other transport books, plus related items, in the East Midlands. A parallel phase saw the addition of toilets and an Information Room which will be incorporated into the overall final building.
Late last year we embarked on the ambitious plan to complete the second and third phases of the new Station building, in traditional style, to meet increasing visitor numbers. When complete the new facility will offer an extended Museum and Shop, a new Ticket Office, and other facilities.
So far EVRA has committed £120,000 to put up the new ground floor structures. To complete the next phase, to add the upper floor structures and roof to make it all waterproof and the final phase to kit all the new areas out with appropriate fixtures and fittings, we need to raise £350,000.
No donation is too small – or too large and will help EVRA build a station that can be enjoyed by all.
Opportunities to support can be found on their website (www.e-v-r-a.com)
EVRA is a Registered Charity number 1106810.
We are looking forward to helping Wirksworth thrive.
