About Geaux Bald

Geaux Bald is a student-run fundraising organization led by second-year medical students at LSU Health Shreveport. Founded in 2011 in honor of a beloved LSUHS faculty member, Dr. Jay Marion, our early efforts supported national pediatric cancer causes. In 2023, we shifted our focus to patients in our own community and identified a local need we could directly impact. Our mission is to support the restoration of The McDade House!

Why the McDade House

In 2024, we launched Geaux Bald for the McDade House, a hospitality house originally opened in 1985 to provide lodging for cancer patients and their families. Nearly 50% of patients at Ochsner LSU Health—Feist-Weiller Cancer Center have to travel 20 miles or more to receive care that can span multiple days. The McDade House, a renovated hospitality house, will provide comfortable lodging for Feist-Weiller Cancer Center patients undergoing cancer treatment. A cancer diagnosis brings immense emotional, physical, and financial strain-not just for patients, but for their loved ones as well. At Geaux Bald, we're committed to easing some of those burdens. With your support, we can help ensure that families across North Louisiana and beyond have a place to stay, rest, and focus on healing during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Thanks to our supporters, last year we surpassed our $30,000 goal.

This year marks our second year raising funds for the McDade House, and we’re aiming even higher in 2026 to help sustain this vital resource for patients and families!

How to Get Involved

There are plenty of ways to join us throughout the year:

● Geaux Bald Pickleball Mixer - compete and have fun fundraising this fall!

● Restaurant Giveback Nights - dine local and give back!

● Race for a Cause - run with friends to support the McDade House!

● Sing for a Cause – cheer on classmates as they perform, peers vote, and we raise funds for a great cause!

● Shave Day - our signature event where students and faculty shave or cut their hair to honor cancer patients and celebrate our community’s generosity!
