Story
Accessing education is a real struggle;
-Almost a fifth of 13-15 year olds in the Northern Region have never had formal education; this is more than four times the national rate.
-The ratio of students to every classroom is 55:1. Teachers have to use outdated textbooks and materials and barely have any resources to use in lessons.
- High cost of living (circa 54% Inflation in 2023) means parents can't afford school books and clothing.
-Al most half of under 14 year olds have to work to survive. A significant proportion of these vulnerable children live on the streets and subjected to exploitation.
Skyrocketing inflation has pushed prices of basic necessities such as food and clothing. Families on low incomes are forced to keep children at home as they can't afford the extra cost.

Educational facilities are basic and do not inspire learning. They lack furniture and resources. Classrooms are hot with no ventilation. There is no water supply, and children often stray miles away in search for something to drink.

What progress has the charity made in the past year?
Over the past year, we have completed the construction of the Community Education Centre!
We are currently completing interior works and aim to open the centre very soon.
What can you do to help?
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. (Nelson Mandela)

Being a supporter of our education centre shows your commitment to improving the livelihoods of those in need.
We are looking for people to:
-Volunteer their time and skills to help us achieve our goals
-Donations of items to use at the centre such as books, stationary, learning materials and electronic devices.
-We are raising funds to install solar panels at the centre as part of our long term sustainability strategy

How will my donation help?

Donations to Community Growth Initiative (Registered charity: 1165507) are used to fund the building on the project. We are proud to be a small family-run charity, which allows us to use 100% of donations towards the charity's projects.
All funds raised will go towards the purchase and installation of solar panels at the education centre.
Alongside our main project, we have been working hard to support other communities with projects including;
-Building water wells (we have constructed six deep borehole water wells)
-Providing food parcels to those fasting during Ramadan
-Distributing free school uniforms and clothing
-Distributing Zakat: We have a small office in Tamale where the needy can come to seek Zakat. We adhere to the Islamic principle of Tamleek whereby zakat is distributed as cash and full ownership of the money goes to the poor. We have supported widows and the blind amongst many needy people.
