Story

GREENPOWER – A lifeline to opportunity and untapped potential for thousands of young people

There has never been a more difficult time to be a young person.

Regrettably, the future prospects of young individuals are largely influenced by the environment they are raised in and the support systems available to help them achieve their full potential. In recent years, the United Kingdom has faced significant difficulties, with the convergence of pandemic repercussions, persistent long-standing inequalities, and disadvantages, coupled with rising living expenses, have createda challenging situation for young people.

Unless something is done to broaden the aspirations and opportunities for these young people, there is a real danger that they become a ‘lost generation’, ill-equipped for the demands of the modern workplace, with many trapped into negative and potentially dangerous life choices.

As adults, we need various skills to do well in work and daily life. These skills include confidence, motivation, teamwork, and social abilities. These skills are essential for us to reach our potential, so it makes sense to teach them in our education settings, which not only include our schools and colleges, but also our youth clubs and workplaces.

Young people desperately need these vital learning opportunities which Greenpower Education Trust provides through its programmes.

ABOUT GREENPOWER

Greenpower motivates young individuals worldwide to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics by presenting them with a distinctive challenge: to create, construct, and compete with an electric car. Participating in this opportunity also offers an exciting journey toward acquiring skills that will enable them to transition into becoming positive contributors to their communities and serve as role models.

As a national charity, we work with schools and youth clubs and reach approximately 11,000 young people aged 9-25 each year helping them build technical abilities, confidence, and the personal and social skills they need to overcome challenges and work towards a brighter future.

We provide the tools and opportunity for young people to work as a team to build an electric powered race car which they then use to compete. Teams contribute between £60 and £100 per race event to put their cars to the test against each other.

Greenpower delivers a distinct message to young people: that they are entitled to excellence and have the potential to accomplish anything.

But we can’t do any of this without your support..
