Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Join CRY on 26th June 2022 for the 16th annual CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk. This event offers the opportunity to show support for CRY, remember young people, raise funds and help raise awareness of young sudden cardiac death.

In 2019, over 1,570 people took part in the Walk, helping us to raise over £72,000. Since COVID, our numbers have understandably dwindled, and in 2021, over 321 people took part helping us to raise over £12,000. This year, we are hoping to get our numbers back up again.

When and where is it? Sunday 26th June 2022. The event will start and finish in Southwark Park, Gomm Road, London, SE16 2TX, near the Band Stand. The venue enables us to start and finish at the same place and provide some extra activities and facilities at the end of the walk. Southwark Park is close to three underground stations, Bermondsey, Canada Water and Surrey Quays.

How long is the walk? 9km (approx 5.5 miles). As a guide, the route should take about 2 hours at an average walking pace. The route has step free access and is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. The route starts in Southwark Park, continues along the River Thames heading towards Tower Bridge, through the cobbled streets into Shad Thames. The walk then continues past the Tower of London, along the Thames Pathway, leading to Millennium Bridge, heading back towards Southwark Park. The walk includes great views of some of London's famous landmarks. Some of these landmarks include, Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Southwark Cathedral, the Tower of London, City Hall and HMS Belfast.

How much does it cost to enter? In advance: Adult = £12 On the day: Adult = £15 Children 16 and under = free, but must be accompanied by an adult. Your entry fee purely goes towards the cost of running the event safely

Who can take part? Anyone with a moderate level of fitness. All ages are welcome but those aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This is a dog friendly event so please do bring along your furry friend.

Do I have to be in a team? No. Many people will be taking part on their own. Individual walkers will leave first as a group, so there will be an opportunity to meet others who are walking on their own. If you would like to take part as a team, why not get a group of friends, colleagues or family together.

Anything else I need to know? Water will be available at the start, along the way and at the end. Bridges Walk T-shirts will be provided to walkers in advance.

How can I enter? Online registrations will be opening soon. There will also be an opportunity to register on the day but it will be more expensive. Please go to the on the day registration desk if you wish to register on the day. You should report to the on the day registration desk between 9.00am and 10.45am. The cost on the day is £15 per adult, accompanied children aged 16 and under, free of charge. You will be able to pick up your Bridges Walk t-shirt once you have registered.

I cannot take part - how can I help? If you would like to make a donation towards the event we would be extremely grateful. To donate online please visit https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/donations/ .
