Story

Help Betsi Walk: A Journey Towards Independence

Thank you for taking the time to visit our page and learn more about our incredible daughter, Betsi.

Betsi has diplegic cerebral palsy, which affects her legs and makes walking independently a challenge. In 2016, we received the life-changing news that Betsi was a candidate for a groundbreaking operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). This surgery offered a chance to significantly reduce the spasticity in her body and give her the opportunity to retrain her brain and body to walk independently.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity and support of our friends, family, and community, we successfully raised the funds needed for the operation. In 2017, Betsi underwent the SDR surgery, and since then, she has been working tirelessly to achieve her goals.

The money raised not only covered the cost of the surgery but continues to support Betsi’s intensive post-operative physiotherapy rehabilitation—a crucial component of her journey. These sessions are vital for helping her build strength, improve mobility, and work toward her dream of walking on her own.

Additionally, the funds will be used for:

Housing adaptations to make our home more accessible for Betsi.

Specialized equipment and the construction of a mini home gym to support her ongoing physiotherapy exercises.

We are fundraising in partnership with Tree of Hope, a registered charity (no. 1043092), which securely manages all of Betsi’s funds. The charity ensures all invoices for her therapy, equipment, and adaptations are paid directly, giving us peace of mind and full transparency.

We are so grateful for your support in helping Betsi achieve her dreams. Every donation, share, or message of encouragement makes a huge difference to her life and future.

Thank you so much for being part of Betsi’s journey.

With love and gratitude,

Sion, Sarah, and Betsi xxx

7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover our core operating costs.

If we raise insufficient funds, or surplus funds, then the funds will be used, if appropriate, to fund support for our child’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objects. If in those circumstances we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives, then any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to be used for the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
