Cross Gates & District Good Neighbours’ Scheme CIO has provided support for local older people for the past 22 years to help reduce social isolation, support independent living and promote well-being.
The Scheme’s transportation service is facing huge demand from our 1545 members which has prompted a major fundraising drive to buy a new minibus. So far, we have raised more than £24,000 towards the £75,000 total through sponsored walks, sponsored bike ride, donations, a name the teddy competition, sponsored knit & small change boxes.
The Scheme’s provides transport to and from its activities, either through volunteer drivers using their own cars or in two minibuses, which are also driven by volunteers. The minibuses are used every weekday, providing accessible transport, including wheelchair lifts for disabled members.
One of the key barriers our members face is reliable and accessible transport. Many of the individuals we support have limited mobility or do not own a vehicle, making it difficult for them to access essential services or participate in social activities. Currently, we rely on a small fleet of volunteer drivers & minibus' to transport our members, but the increasing demand for our services, along with the age and condition of our minibus' means we are struggling to meet the needs of everyone. A new minibus will not only ensure that we can continue to provide safe and reliable transport, but it will also significantly enhance the independence and well-being of our members.
The £75,000 will cover the cost of the minibus itself, along with insurance, maintenance, and other running costs for the first few years. This investment will ensure that The Scheme can continue to be a lifeline for those who need it most. We are appealing to the generosity of local businesses, organisations, and individuals to help us reach this goal. Your support will directly benefit some of the most vulnerable members of our community, enabling them to live more independent, fulfilling lives.
