Story
Cross Gates & District Good Neighbours' Scheme has supported older people in the community for 22 years, helping reduce social isolation, promoting well-being, and supporting independent living. Their transportation service, essential for enabling members to access activities and essential services, is facing high demand from its 1,545 members, prompting a fundraising drive for a new minibus. Currently, £24,000 has been raised toward a £75,000 target through events like sponsored walks, bike rides, and donations. With volunteer drivers and two minibuses (including wheelchair-accessible vehicles), the Scheme provides daily transport, but the aging minibuses and increased demand mean a new vehicle is needed to continue safe, reliable service. The £75,000 goal includes funds for the minibus, insurance, maintenance, and running costs. Local businesses, organisations, and individuals are encouraged to contribute, ensuring the Scheme remains a vital resource to our members
