Help Charlie Get the Care He Deserves ❤️🐾

At around 16 years old, Charlie has lost his beloved owner, the home he knew for so many years, and now he is facing serious health problems. Please help give this lovely old boy the veterinary care he needs.

Charlie first came into foster care with Thames Valley Animal Welfare (TVAW) in 2011 as a stray, aged around 18 months. He was a lovely, friendly cat who went on to enjoy many happy years in a loving home with a family in Reading. He was much loved and received regular veterinary care.

Sadly, his owner passed away at the beginning of July. After this heartbreaking loss, Charlie refused to return to his home or garden. Instead, he spent the hot summer living in an elderly neighbour’s garden, where she kindly fed him and kept an eye on him.

At the end of August, his family contacted us for help, and Charlie returned to foster care on 1 September.

It soon became clear that he wasn’t well. His coat was terribly matted, despite being short-haired, and he was drinking and weeing excessively. Then, within days, he became seriously ill with a painful mouth abscess. He was dehydrated, blood tests showed he was anaemic, and the vets discovered that he has an abnormal galloping heart rhythm.

Since then, Charlie has needed multiple veterinary visits, blood tests, intravenous fluids, antibiotics, pain relief and further investigations. Unfortunately, he became unwell again after his initial antibiotics finished, requiring further tests and long-acting antibiotic injections.

Charlie has now had a heart ultrasound and dental treatment and his veterinary bills have reached approx. £2500.

For a small animal welfare charity like TVAW, these unexpected costs quickly add up. We want to give Charlie every chance of feeling better, but we need your help to cover his veterinary care.

After losing his beloved owner and the home he knew for so many years, Charlie deserves comfort, security and kindness. We want his remaining years to be filled with warmth and love, not pain and uncertainty.
