At Children Today we provide grants for vital, life-changing specialised equipment for children and young people up to the age of 25 years old across the UK. Our aim is to ensure that every child and young person fulfils their potential and has the best possible quality of life.

Story

Caitlin is my (Adrian Smith's) step-daughter and she desperately needs an adapted trike. so she can get regular exercise.

Caitlin has Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) a rare and complex genetic condition that causes a range of physical symptoms, learning difficulties and behavioural challenges.

Since childhood, Caitlin, has been desperate to ride a bike, but sadly is unable to due to her condition.

The charity Children Today has pledged £1000 towards the cost of Caitlin's trike, but she still needs to raise a further £4,340.

Caitlin's an amazing girl with a heart of gold but she has very complex needs. Her PWS causes a constant desire to eat, so she's prone to weight gain despite being on a very strict calorie controlled diet.

Caitlin was also diagnosed with scoliosis, caused by the PWS, in July 2021 and recently had an operation on her spine to try and help correct the curvature.

Since her surgery, she's struggled with pain management and her leg length discrepancy, caused by the PWS, is now more pronounced meaning walking even short distances can be uncomfortable and painful.

Caitlin really wants stay active, but since she's had the surgery she hasn't been able to take part in regular exercise, so she's gained a lot of weight. There's a lot of pressure on her hips and joints, which is causing her a lot of pain. Its had a huge impact on her mental health as well.

Caitlin's such a selfless girl, who wants to be everyone's friend. We really want to be able to put her smile back on her face and help her get the exercise she needs and wants to help her lose weight.

So on Sunday 14th August we'll be taking part in a charity skydive to raise funds for Caitlin. We'll be leaping 15,000 feet from a plane in Swansea. Wish us luck and please donate whatever you can for Caitlin!

Any funds raised over and above what we need to provide this equipment will go towards helping fund vitally important equipment for other children and young adults with a disability or life-limiting condition.
