Herefordshire Headway provides essential support to people living with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families. This includes individuals who have experienced a stroke, a traumatic accident, or an illness such as a brain tumour or meningitis. We understand that a brain injury doesn't just affect an individual; it changes the lives of their entire support network. Our primary goal is to empower those we support to regain their independence. We provide a safe, rehabilitative environment where individuals can work toward personal goals, build social connections, and rediscover their skills. Whether through specialist workshops or therapeutic activities, we focus on helping people live a full and truly meaningful life after injury. Beyond direct care, Herefordshire Headway strives to raise the profile of people living with an ABI. We do this through public education and by providing a strong voice within statutory health and social care communities. We advocate for better understanding and improved services, ensuring that the unique challenges of brain injury are recognised at every level of society. As a local charity, we pride ourselves on being a "lifeline" for our members. By donating to or fundraising for Herefordshire Headway, you are directly supporting rehabilitation, reducing social isolation and helping families navigate the complex journey of recovery.

Story

We have an important update regarding Tim’s Great North Run fundraising challenge.

Following a painful leg injury—Tim has had to make the difficult but sensible decision to defer his entry to next year’s event.

Tim put in weeks of dedication and miles on the road and while he is disappointed not to be on the starting line in Newcastle this month, rest and recovery must come first. The good news is that he is planning to enter again next year.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported and sponsored Tim so far and we will keep you fully updated as Tim returns to full fitness and restarts his training journey.

Please join us in wishing Tim a swift, full recovery!

Running for Resilience: Tim’s Great North Run

When our trustee, Tim, laces up his running shoes for the iconic Great North Run, he faces a grueling 13.1-mile challenge. It takes months of training, immense physical grit, and sheer mental determination to cross that finish line in South Shields.

But for someone recovering from an acquired brain injury, the challenge doesn’t end when they cross a finish line. For them, a similar mountain must be climbed every single day.

The Daily Marathon of Brain Injury

An acquired brain injury can change a life in a split second. Everyday tasks that many of us take for granted—talking, walking, processing information, or managing emotions—can suddenly feel as exhausting as running a half marathon. There are no rest days and the course ahead can feel incredibly overwhelming.

Brain injury doesn’t just affect the individual; it ripples through families. Managing life after an injury can feel like a long road, which is why having a dedicated team in your corner is so important." - Herefordshire Headway

Why Local Support Matters

That is why Herefordshire Headway exists. We are an independent, local charity dedicated to providing a lifeline for people with brain injuries and their families across the county. We provide:

Specialist Rehabilitation: Helping clients rebuild cognitive, physical, and social skills.

A Supportive Community: A safe space to rediscover hope, confidence, and independence.

Respite & Guidance: Vital support networks for carers and loved ones navigating a new reality.

Every single pound Tim raises stays right here in our local community, directly funding these essential services.
