University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is a national specialist centre for transplants, has one of the most advanced paediatric radiotherapy departments in Europe and is home to the largest single-floor critical care unit in the world. Consequently many patients travel significant distances to receive treatment.
Our Home away from Home appeal helps to provide patients and families with free accommodation near to our hospitals, helping to keep families together during difficult times in their lives.
For patients and their families, visiting the hospitals can be a stressful experience, without the added pressure of trying to find somewhere to stay to be near a loved one. We provide these homes away from home to alleviate that stress, and make visiting the hospital, under what can be very difficult circumstances, as easy as possible.
Having the apartment meant that we had more time together where we could do stuff, whether it be just going for a walk, racing toy cars around and just letting Connor have fun as much as we could to keep the spirits up.
