The Challenge 

On the 23rd of April 2023, I will be running the Madrid Marathon. I want to raise awareness of those smaller charities which make a big difference in such difficult times. 

For 3 years from 2012-2015, my mum had an on-and-off battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma (Blood Cancer). It was a difficult time for me and my family and my mum had to undergo Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and a Stemcell transplant. Over this period my mum spent a lot of time in the Birmingham Hospitals Haematology ward which was 55 miles away from our home. With the help of Karen's Home from Home, we were able to stay within walking distance from the hospital and visit my mum regularly. I feel very lucky to say that my mum had full remission in 2015 and after a long recovery period is now healthy and back to a normal life. I am eternally grateful to Karen's Home from Home for the help and support it provided. Any donations big or small with be gratefully appreciated.

The Charity

Karen's Home from Home appeal helps to provide patients and families with free accommodation near our hospitals, helping to keep families together during difficult times in their lives. For patients and their families, visiting the hospitals can be a stressful experience without the added pressure of trying to find somewhere to stay to be near a loved one. We provide these homes away from home to alleviate that stress and make visiting the hospital, under what can be very difficult circumstances, as easy as possible.
