Huey is a bright, energetic young boy facing a unique set of challenges. Along with his autism, Huey also has dyslexia and possible ADHD, which impact nearly every part of his daily life. While we’ve explored various school options, finding a suitable placement has not been possible, and Huey is currently being educated other than in school (EOTIS). Despite our best efforts, he still struggles greatly with communication, social interactions, emotional regulation, and often feels very isolated.
Being out in public spaces is also difficult for Huey. He can become overwhelmed easily and often struggles with interoception—the ability to recognize his body’s internal signals, like hunger, thirst, or physical comfort. This adds to his daily challenges, especially when he's trying to participate in social settings.
We believe an autism assistance dog could be transformative for Huey. These specialized dogs provide not only a sense of calm and companionship but also the potential to help Huey build essential social and emotional skills. With the support of a well-trained dog, Huey could have more confidence navigating public spaces, feel more secure in challenging environments, and develop better awareness of his body’s needs. Given how much he thrives with the presence of others ("body doubling"), an assistance dog would ensure he never feels alone, providing a steady, comforting companion by his side.
Training and placing an autism assistance dog is costly, and this is where we need your help. Your generosity can bring us one step closer to giving Huey the sense of stability, friendship, and support he needs to thrive.
Thank you so much for being part of Huey’s journey
