The Temple was formerly set up in the early 1970’s in the City of Nottingham and has since evolved into an institution that now covers a wide spectrum of activities, promoting the Hindu ethos in many ways ranging from Religious, Cultural, Social, Festive, Educational and Charity events to the practice of Yoga. The establishment of this Temple is unique in that the original foundations were set so as to represent all deities of the Hindu Trinity. These include Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva incorporating the 16 Hindu Sanskars known as the ritual sacraments that are conducted with Havan (holy fire) Mantras of the world’s most ancient tradition of the Vedas. The Executive Committee is constantly striving to satisfy the present needs of its patrons and members and at the same time contemplating on the long term aspirations of the future generations of the organisation.

Story

My name is Jasmiet, born in Ealing and raised in Slough, by profession a Data Analyst.

I moved to Nottingham from July 2022 to October 2023 for job purposes, but other opportunities closer to home came along so I decided to relocate back home.

When you first relocate to a new place where you don’t have your close friends and family around, you find it very daunting. I still remember I came to pray at the mandir just before starting my new job in Nottingham. Pandit ji welcomed me to Nottingham/temple and wished me luck for my first day and said I was more than welcome to attend the Sunday services. After a few months I started to come as frequently as I could. I found myself more at peace and with a stronger connection here the more I attended. I was able to learn something new through the services. The limited events I attended towards the end of the year were really well organised. However, what really sets Nottingham Temple aside is that the poojas and events or any form of function are done with great passion. The whole committee team work hard day and night. I was really sad that I was moving back home as I felt the connection here and this temple helped me to regain my confidence slowly and bring me back to my happy place.

The Nottingham Hindu temple do a great job with limited resources that they have but the temple can advance so much more e.g.

1. Raise funds for the purchase and installation of a new sound system for the Nottingham Hindu Temple. This will allow Pandit Ji to facilitate more meaningful and powerful puja ceremonies that spiritually inspire, uplift and create memorable experiences for all sangat that attend the events that are organized by the committee throughout the year.

2. Installation of a projector so that youth can read the translation and meaning of Sanskrit – our next generation need to learn about their religion, and this is a great way to encourage them to attend so they can learn at the same time.

3. Summer Hindi Camps for kids

I have completed marathons/ultra marathons, South Coast Challenge (2018) and Chilterns (2019) – 50km, Easter/Winter Walk (50miles) helping to raise money for charities which are close to me. Thereafter, I looked to a new challenge, and I showed a keen interest in power lifting and after a six-month intense training regime I competed in my first competition in January 2020.

I took a break in competing in different challenges since 2020 due to Covid and then personal circumstances. I feel like I am in a good place to resume my next challenge. Since I am kick starting my fitness journey again I thought why not raise money for a charity that helped me to get to my happy place, and for the future generation, and at the same time ease myself into my first challenge.

I am crazy enough to be doing 100 burpees each day for the whole month of June 2024. In total 3000.

The challenges completed per day will be shared on social media platforms so people can follow my journey throughout June 2024.
