Story

The Jericho Road Project was established in 2001 with the mission to eliminate rough sleeping in the Lewisham borough. The project has six low support houses with 27 residents who are supported in moving into independent accommodation, getting back into employment or volunteering in the community. The Project also runs The Feast, a weekly drop in meal for 100+ homeless and vulnerable people who have access to a hot three course hot meal, housing advice, free clothing and friendship. Jericho Road also runs two Christmas schemes: King's Christmas Trees - Selling 550+ high quality Nordmann Fir Christmas Trees across South East London. The profits fund a years worth of food at The Feast, around 4,500 meals. Big Red Box - Christmas food hampers, packed by the community and distributed through social services and local charities to some of the neediest families and individuals in the South East London communities. We distributed 2,226 Big Red Boxes in 2018!

Where will the money go?: This year we are looking to split the money raised in two ways. 1) Subsidising funds for Encounter Camp, a summer camp attended by residents and attendees of the Feast who are in need of a week retreat in the country side during the Summer, it's a great time for people struggling to get some space, relax and reflect. It's also a great way for us to build friendships and create community with people who might otherwise be quite isolated throughout the year.

2) We have regular key working sessions with all of our residents with the aim of helping them to achieve goals in, gaining independence, volunteering, gaining new skills or getting back in to work. Some of our residents are making great strides, gaining places on internships or work placements and training and we want to be able to invest money into their future by helping them to secure funding for their personal development, whether that be for equipment, attending training courses or education programmes. So this half of the money raised will be all for resident personal development!
