Our team of volunteers serve the communities of North East Wales providing the Police, Ambulance Service and local communities with a highly competent search and rescue capability that can be deployed swiftly, safely and effectively 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
What do we do?
NEWSAR volunteers assist the Police in searching for missing vulnerable adults and children in rural and semi rural places who are often suffering with mental health issues. We are seeing an increase in the number of call outs relating to elderly people living with dementia who have done missing from home.
Team members train as flood and Swift Water Rescue Technicians. We work with the Environment Agency during periods of flooding to evacuate people from their homes and deliver them to a place of safely. We are also called upon to rescue people injured in fast moving water.
Hazardous ground rescues are technical and require skilled rope and recovery techniques. Team members frequently undertake complex evacuations and negotiate challenging terrain to reach injured people with limb, spinal and head injuries.
Our 4x4 capability enables us to reach injured people in remote locations. NEWSAR volunteers administer advance first aid and evacuate casualties to a waiting ambulance or helicopter. Stretcher carries can be over long distances and difficult terrain
