Story
10 days ago while on a hike up Moel Famau with friends and the dogs, my wife Amy fell and broke all 3 ankle bones. We were in a valley close to the summit, when luckily one of the mountain rescue team bumped into us on his Sunday run.
Over the 3 hours I spent getting down, taking the dogs home and returning, the team managed to stretcher Amy over difficult terrain for me to collect her and take her to hospital.
Amy was meant to be doing the marathon this weekend to complete the Chester treble having previously completed the 10k and half marathon.
Despite injuries and minimal training these last few weeks, I’ve decided to do my first marathon to raise funds for NEWSAR for their support in a tricky situation!
NEWSAR volunteers provide the Police, Ambulance Service and local communities of North East Wales with a highly competent search and rescue capability that can be deployed swiftly, safely and effectively 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
When we aren't attending call outs or training our team of volunteers are kept very busy raising £30,000 per year to fund the day to day running of the team and keep us operational. NEWSAR does not receive any Government funding.
