Story
Homelessness in South Lakeland is not always visible. People may be sofa surfing, living in insecure accommodation or facing eviction. Behind closed doors families can be under great pressure, and individuals may be isolated, hungry or struggling to cope. The complexity of the housing and benefits systems adds to the strain.
Manna House provides stability and hope. Through our drop-in service people receive food, clothing, advice and access to the internet. Our housing and benefits advisors work with individuals until cases are resolved, often preventing homelessness before it happens. For those who are already rough sleeping, our emergency pod provides a safe night off the streets and a pathway into more secure accommodation.
Clients tell us they come for help but also for companionship and a sense of belonging.
“It is lovely coming here.” “Everyone is really friendly and helpful.” “I’m included and part of a friendly group, supportive and non-judgemental.” “I try to call in every week for a coffee and to have a chat.”
That combination of practical support and emotional connection is at the heart of Manna House. Itis what enables people to move from crisis to building a better future
