2026 Kilimanjaro Summit for Literacy
In July 2026, 15 climbers will take on Mount Kilimanjaro — not just for the summit, but for the thousands of children whose futures depend on learning to read.
Led by literacy champions Chris Bredt and Jeff Kehoe, the team will trek from rainforest to glacier, rising 5,895 metres to Uhuru Peak, with one shared goal: to raise $100,000 for children’s literacy in Tanzania.
The last Summit for Literacy in 2022 helped launch CODE’s Reading Tanzania project across 15 schools, reaching nearly 5,000 children. Over 13,500 books were delivered, teachers were trained and mentored, and classrooms began to transform.
The impact was powerful:
84% of Grade 3 students reached reading comprehension, compared to 60% in non-project schools.
This year’s climb builds on that success, expanding this proven model to more schools and more children — one step, one book, one future at a time.
This climb is about more than reaching the summit. It’s about reaching children with the tools they need to learn and thrive!
