Story

Regular followers of Grovehill Animal Trust will be familiar with our posts about kitten season, which occurs every spring. During this time, we often find ourselves overwhelmed with new kitten arrivals, as do many shelters across the country, due to the numbers of unwanted and homeless litters.

Every year we reach capacity very quickly and our foster homes fill up. To compound the issue, the last few years have seen a marked increase in the duration of kitten season, and we have even seen new born kittens arriving to us on Christmas of last year.

With spring almost here, we want to be prepared and need your help.

We have an empty room at the shelter that we want to develop into a unit for kittens and their mothers. It is away from the main cattery and would provide a safe, warm, quiet, and stress-free environment for the kittens.

Our room needs work before it would be fit for purpose, however. It needs a new flooring, wall repairs, sink installed along with a worktop, cat runs, heating, and a new window to improve insulation. This is where you can help us by making a donation.

This increased capacity will help us to rescue more mothers and kittens who otherwise would be facing a grim existence fending for themselves after being dumped and abandoned. Many kittens in that situation of course do not make it.

When old enough, the kittens we raise in our new unit will move to our main cattery where they will wait for their new forever homes to be found. They will be vaccinated, wormed, treated for fleas, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.

About the charity

We are committed to the rescuing and rehoming of abandoned or unwanted cats and dogs; the rehabilitation of abused and neglected animals; the education of the public in animal welfare; and the promotion of neutering and spaying of animals.
