A-Frame Re-Development

Organised by Laburnum Boat Club

Our iconic building was erected in 1984 and is used every single day. However, we now need to do some updates and modernisations so we can carry on serving the community. Our new building will help us to continue to deliver amazing sessions.

Story

Laburnum Boat Club is a community-based boating project by Regents Canal in South Hackney. We offer a variety of services for people aged 9 upwards including our youth club, adult club, family club, narrowboat trips and much more.

LBC is a voluntary organisation managed by local people, it aims to provide opportunities for the personal development of children, young people and their families in the local community through participation in a range of water-based activities.

For 40 years this 'A' frame building has meant 'Laburnum' to thousands of young people however it was originally intended to be a temporary structure and after many adaptations and fixes we are going to conserve the identity and plan ahead for the next 40 years.

Our new building will help us to continue to deliver amazing sessions by creating a bigger club room, a fully kitted out accessible kitchen to better provide for our breakfast club and holiday lunch club. We're improving the changing room and showers, adding a new staff changing room, putting in a new ramp for easy wheelchair access, new cycle storage and changing the way we store equipment to stop it from raining inside!

As well as all that we will also be improving our eco footprint and cutting costs by installing solar panels, insulation and installing a new hot water system.

This is an ambitious but much needed update that will keep the identity and feel that is so important to so many people.
