Hackney Half Marathon 2024 · 19 May 2024 ·

Our iconic building was erected in 1984 and is used every single day. However, we now need to do some updates and modernisations so we can carry on serving the community. Our new building will help us to continue to deliver amazing sessions.

Story

Help, I signed up for the Hackney Half on 19th of May!

It’s a personal challenge on a long and winding journey out of living-in-my-head. I successfully avoided exercise for most of my life, feeling panicky as soon as my heart rate went up. Last year I started doing some 5k parkruns and was surprised that not only did I not die, but actually kind of enjoyed myself. Attempting 20km is the next step in running my way out of panic station and into joy and feeling alive.

But I can't do it on my own. Well, at the moment I don't know if I can do it at all! To make quitting less attractive, I've set up this fundraiser.

Laburnum Boat Club is brilliant. They provide water-based activities for disadvantaged and vulnerable kids in Hackney. They are currently fundraising to rebuild their iconic A-frame clubhouse. Laburnum Boat Club is just down the canal from CHUG in Kingsland Basin, my home for 15 years, and really close to my heart. Their work is vital for the area, and I know that every donated pound will make a real difference to kids’ lives.

Laburnum Boat Club need your money. I want your support, encouragement and faith. Please give what you can :)

Thank you, Anneke
