Story

Nearly half of the young people who come to SASH facing homelessness, do so because of family breakdown. Right now, there are young people in our community living in unstable and highly strained family circumstances, surrounded by abuse - all they have to look forward to once lockdown is fully lifted, is the dread of being kicked out of their family home or making the impossible decision to flee a toxic environment.

Our expert support workers are predicting a rise in the need for our services after lockdown is fully lifted. We want these young people to know that there is hope. With your help, we can make sure that they have a safe home and a bright future.

With fundraising events being cancelled, we have seen a significant drop in our income. We need to make sure that we are there for these young people and can continue our lifeline emergency accommodation service, Nightstop. £50,000 is what it costs to run Nightstop for 3 months, including the referral line. Help us to support these young people and to make sure that their first experience of homelessness, is their last.

Together, we can prevent youth homelessness after the coronavirus crisis.

We help young people aged 16-25 in York, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We do this thanks to a network of 'hosts' who have a spare room and who have been recruited and trained to accommodate a young person who is vulnerable.
