Abuse and domestic violence have a devastating effect on the lives of around 2.3million people in the UK each year and the problem starts younger than most people realise.
- 25% of teenage girls and 20% of teenage boys experience physical partner violence
-75% of teenage girls and 50% of teenage boys experience emotional partner violence
- 40% of 16-17-year-old girls have not received information on consent
- Only 20% of 16-17 year olds can tell if a relationship is abusive
At LMK we work with young people to teach them how to build positive, healthy relationships free from abuse. We offer a prevention programme where young people are taught to spot and stop unhealthy relationship behaviours in themselves and others, using the 10 Signs (https://www.justletmeknow.org/10-signs). We cover practical tips on setting boundaries, consent and breaking up safely so young people can keep themselves and their friends safe.
So far, we have worked with 3,924 young people, in partnership with 36 partner organisations across 11 London boroughs. But we want to do more! It costs just £5 to fund a child through LMK's workshops - preventing them from becoming victims or perpetrators of relationship abuse and empowering them to thrive in their relationships.
Charlotte, Duncan, Marcus, Pam, Aliya and Dolnar each have their own reasons for supporting LMK. But together, they are determined to raise enough funding to put 500 children through our relationship abuse and domestic violence prevention programmes. They are taking on the daunting challenge of running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for us on the 9th of October. (That's 21km /13.1miles! ) Please help them to support us, and the vital prevention work we do, by donating as generously as you can. Thank you!
