Retinal detachment is when the thin layer at the back of the eye (retina) becomes loose. Unless treated urgently retinal detachment can permanently affect sight and can cause blindness.
Ongoing research is directed at investigating the genetic risk factors for retinal detachment, particularly in children where retinal detachment can be so devastating in terms of life-long loss of vision.
The Stickler Syndrome community is fortunate to have specialists at the forefront of world research in this field, but we are competing with other better known topics and areas of research for important research funds – this is where every little donation goes towards the continued research.
The ‘Bantham Swoosh’ refers to the very strong current on the ebbing tide which propels swimmers (and anything in its course), through the narrow mouth of the River Avon where it meets the sea.
This is a proper wild water swimmer's challenge which replaces the Dart 10k challenge planned for September 2024.
We go again, but this time with a 'SWOOOSH', and despite a recent hip operation Martin Snead will be taking on this challenge with his daughter Charlotte - both of them training hard as we approach the big day!
Best of luck Martin Snead and Charlotte from everyone at Stickler Syndrome UK.
